The cathedral is made out of the volcanic stone that is typical to the region. The interior is beautiful and you can even pay a small donation to climb the stairs (quite narrow and steep towards the top) to view the city from the roof.. We spent a few days in the Clermont-Ferrand area in June 2013 and spent part of one day in Clermont.

The Cathedral of Clermont-Ferrand is located in the very heart of Clermont's old city, approximately 250 miles due south of Paris. It is open Mondays through Fridays from 7:30am-6:00pm and Weekends from 9:30am-7:30pm (closed for lunch all days from noon-2:00pm). There is no cost for admission.

The basilica is located off the Rue du Port and is one of the most impressive of the roman style churches in the Auvergne region. Take a look at the fantastic mosaic details on the semi-circular chapels then admire the inside which is nice and light and airy.
